About Us

Our Mission

Through compassion and understanding of the family disease of addiction, the OASIS COMMUNITY CENTER provides education, support, comfort, and healing to people who have experienced a substance-related loss, as well as families and friends impacted by a loved one’s active substance use.

We do so with the understanding that the effects of a loved one’s substance use disorder can cause trauma. At OASIS, our staff practices a trauma-informed care (TIC) approach which emphasizes safety, collaboration, and compassion.

OASIS Community Center is operated by SPEAK UP for BEN, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit corporation. Learn more about our nonprofit at www.speakupforben.org.

 POD CASTS:

Destigmatizing Addiction with Rhonda Miller

February 03, 2020   -   Mondays With Mel

“This month’s podcast focuses on the US opioid epidemic and a family picking up the pieces after the loss of their talented, hopeful boy. Rhonda Miller discusses the loss of her son due to an accidental overdose and the isolation following his death from family and friends. Since 2018, the Millers founded a nonprofit, Speak Up For Ben, breaking through the solitude and creates a sense of community with strangers. Speak Up For Ben is located in Northampton, Pennsylvania and hosts several events at the Oasis Community Center. Their messaging is simple:   Break the Silence   -   End the Stigma   -   Never forget

To understand how you can play a role in reducing the stigma of addiction, listen to this episode of Mondays With Mel.”

About Us

From our Founder

“Welcome —and thank you for stopping by our site!  As a parent of a son who lived with substance use disorder, I’ve travelled the difficult road of not knowing where to get help.  As a Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS), I am here to support and guide you and your family to resources to help you heal and build resiliency. I also work with individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one as a result of a substance-related cause, in my role as a Certified Grief Educator and Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist. I invite you to meet with me for a complimentary and confidential session to help you navigate the complex, yet, hopeful world of family recovery resources. Together, we CAN heal.”

- Rhonda Miller, CFRS, Certified Grief Educator |  Executive Director
